Materials
-Basic materials ...pencil, scissors, glue (pritt stick is best)
-Thin card (A4 or A5 is best ...any bigger and thin card can't support the 'pop-up' design)
-Card for your design (This could be any image ... festivals, weather, birthday images..)
-Stencil for your design (optional ...only needed for a class of students to draw around on a particular theme)
-Ruler
-Tape
-Decoration (for example, white stickers for background clouds, shiny paper, etc)
-Front cover photocopy or white piece of paper to the size of the front of the card (to cover the exposed pop-out part)
-White stickers for message (optional ...if you use lighter-coloured card, you can write your message directly on the card

Stage 1
-Fold A4/A5 card in half
-Choose your design and draw it (perhaps with a stencil for students to use in a class) on a piece of smaller card. This should be about the size of half the width of the A4/5 when folded, from the fold to the edges.
-Decorate your design (for example, the outline, circle in the centre of a sun, eyes on a face, etc ...you will not be able to do this when the card is assembled)

Stage 2
-Take the folded A4/A5 card and cut 2 slits across the centre of the folded card towards the edge (about an inch apart and an inch or 2 in length ...you need to make sure the length of the cuts allow your design to fit on the width of the A4/A5 card or it will jutt out)
-Fold back the corners of the cut so it is at a right-angle to the fold. Crease firmly
-Fold in the other direction
-Push the folded part inwards and fold so it's inside ...and the pop-up part should open up when the card is opened wide

Stage 3
-Place your decorated design next to one of the folds of the cut-out part. Glue one side of the cut-out part and fold the A4/A5 card shut. Alternatively just glue the design and stick on but open before it dries or it will all stick together
-Add tape to the back of your design to secure it
-Add the front cover to disguise the exposed part where the pop-out part is folded inside when shut
-Decorate the inside of the card and add your message

Note: You can add 4, 6 cuts to make multiple pop-out parts..
