Here's a classic idea that is easy and effective. Great for Spring and Summer ...Good for caterpillar/butterfly life-cycle lessons, too. Use the stencil/instructions and photos provided.
Materials
-Pencil
-Scissors
-Thin card or paper (a page from a magazine is ideal)
-String/Wire/Pipe-cleaner
-Stencil (optional)
Stencil and brief written instructions: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B6Ak_SGbjeorWW5fVFQybUY4am8/edit
Stage 1
-Cut from stencil, draw on paper/thin card and cut out. Or you could draw freehand (a circle and square slightly overlapping)
Stage 2
-Fold the card/paper horizontally like a concertina
-Once folded, then fold in half
Stage 3
-Tie the central part with string to secure (and to hang) ...Or use wire/pipe cleaner to secure and create antennae
-Open out the pleated parts to make the wings ..and that's it.
